GRL (Gay Romance Lit Retreat) is going on in Kansas City, MO this week and while I couldn’t make it, I know a lot of awesome people who are going to be there. I really wish I could be there to enjoy the fun, but since I can’t, I’d like to live vicariously through all of you. So, tell me, what authors are you excited to meet this weekend and/or what are your favorite books that you’ve picked up while there? (And for those of us playing along at home, who do you wish you could meet and what are your favorite books by said author?)
I love going to conventions. It’s all about the people for me. You never know who you’ll run into and half the fun is just talking to random people at panels or the bar or social events. It’s strange because I’m such an introvert sometimes—I HATE making phone calls, even to people I know—but I can chat away with other authors and readers, once I get past that initial awkwardness of intruding upon another person with my presence. And, of course, once I get to know an author, I have to buy one of their books. The last time I flew to a convention (RainbowCon 2015) I nearly didn’t have room in my suitcase for all the books I bought! (This is why I now take a spare bag if I can…) Thankfully in the current age of digital media, I can just add books to my Amazon wishlist, but there’s nothing like the satisfaction of walking away with a physical book in hand.
…I still have yet to actually read all of the books I bought at RainbowCon 2015, but I’m working on that.
I hope that everyone at GRL has a great time! Hopefully, I can join in on the fun in 2017.
